Minister forced to apologize

The Ministry of Internal affairs is forced to apologize for issuing a new police Uniform without informing parliament and the public.

Last year parliament approved 16 gazetted types of uniform but recently a new Uniform, worn by the Mobile Police Unit,  was introduced without the knowledge of parliament or the public an issue that the committee of defense and internal affairs is questioning.

The uniform in question is the blue and white comouflage which was introduced this month and given to the mobile police patrol unit.

Today Internal affairs minister Kirunda Kivenjinja was tasked to explain why his ministry failed to inform parliament and the public.

Kivijinja says under the law the police can make changes without any consultations adding that with professionalization of the police force other new units with separate uniforms will be set up.

Angered by his explanation MPs Hussein Kyanjo, Moses Mukose, Wanume Kibedi and the committee chairman Saleh Kamba insisted that an apology be issued to the committee and the public.

The MPs said issuing the uniforms without prior information is dangerous as it causes panic among the public.

Deputy Inspector general of police Julius Odwee was quick to issue an apology but after explaining that police tried to inform the public.
