Oposition calls for prosecution
The opposition in parliament wants individuals within KCC and the Ministry of lands who sanctioned the allocation of land titles in Wetlands prosecuted.
This follows media reports in which environmental watch dog NEMA named several individuals holding land titles in wetlands contrary to national environmental laws.
The Shadow minister for water and environment also Kitgum district woman MP Beatrice Atim Anywar says corruption in these public offices is complicating the work of NEMA.
But lands minister Daniel Omara Atubo says the process of allocating such land requires the involvement of all local authorities who must take the first blame.
He however says once it’s proved that the land is allocated in a wetland the titles will be canceled in accordance with the law.Thursday, 29 July 2010 15:20
