Police stop anti AU Somalia mission demo

The Inspector General of Police Kale Kaihura halts the intended demonstration by the Citizens Coalition on Somalia calling for the immediate withdrawal of Ugandan troops from the war ravaged state of Somalia.

Citizens Coalition on Somalia is a grouping of local political activists opposed to the continued participation of ther Uganda army in the AU Mission in Somaliua.

Last week the group vowed to hit the street in protest demanding the withdrawal and stopping of deploying Ugandan soldiers in Somalia.

In a letter addressed to the group, Kaihura says the group should call off the demonstration until it gets an alternative venue which is not susceptible to security concerns in the country.

Kampala District Police commander James Ruhweza spoke about the directive.

However the group mobilizer Onekalit Denis says police’s act of calling off illegal and will protest its move in the constitutional court next week.
