The Inspector General of Police Lt. Gen. Kale Kayihura reveals that police has already deployed a special team of police commandos to counter the illegal vigilante groups that are synonymous with cases of electoral malpractice.
This follows numerous electoral offenses registered in past by-elections, where vigilante groups have been blamed for beating people and being behind the violence.
Kayihura warns the perpetrators of violence that police officers highly skilled in taekwondo have been deployed to counter people who beat up and intimidate voters noting that police cannot just look on a s such acts continue unabated, with the perpetrators walking away with impunity.
He says that people who want to become agents of candidates should seek accreditation from the electoral commission or else face arrest and prosecution.
This during a press briefing ahead of the Kaseses district woman parliamentary by-elections scheduled for Wednesday this week.
