Museveni, Mbabazi summoned to protect NRM

The High Court summons NRM Party Chairman, President Yoweri Museveni together with the Party secretary General Amama Mababzi to appear before the court on the 29th of this month, and show cause why the party should not be closed down for failure to comply with a consent Judgment entered with Retired Captain Daudi Ruhinda Maguru in October 2010.

Court Registrar in charge of executions Isaac Muwata signed the summons requiring the respondents to appear without fail.

The consent judgment was reached in respect of a suit Maguru filed against the party leadership challenging President Museveni’s nomination as the party Flag bearer in the concluded 2011 elections.

Maguru had declared his intentions to contest against the incumbent Museveni for the party leadership and presidential candidature only to be told on the Election Day that Museveni had returned unopposed.

Consequently the party and Maguru through their lawyers appeared before the former Principal Judge James Ogoola and agreed to withdraw the case on condition that the party would among other things, hold fresh elections for the party leadership within 10 months after the General election.

Maguru says up to date the respondents have never taken any step to fulfill their obligation and a letter he wrote to party secretary Amama Mbabazi asking him to comply with the terms of the consent judgment was ignored.
